Swindon RC Summer Road Race
Sunday 11th September 2005
Report from organiser Bryan Telford ;
Well what a race, not exactly the biggest field we`ve ever had but the quality was there
& the winning break took off on the first lap in which the two dominant teams were
well represented. With two riders each the teams of Angliasport (Nic Tilling &
Grant Bayton) & Team Maestro (Ben luckwell & Mark Perry) looked set for a duel on
the tough course. An early mechanical forced Perry to retire & the trio of the
break continued to ride together despite the efforts of the peloton behind to bridge the
rising gap which eventually rose to 3 minutes. Angliasport took the advantage &
played the old `one two` against ex pro rider Luckwell, Bayton drove hard in the last few
kms to take the sting out of Luckwell with Tilling kicking in the last 200 metres for the
win. Despite some fast riding from the main group behind the leaders were never
going to be caught showing the class of the early break.
